fnsi..... sewing with bonnie & camille

FNSI saw me working on a new quilt (as you do; even though you only plan to work on UFOs and gifts, and not start anything new!).  I actually started it a couple of weeks ago for FNWF, after I got Camille Roskelley's book 'Simply Retro' from the library and fell in love with this quilt, 'Fresh'.

Star quilts are a favourite of mine, and I thought this one was gorgeous.  And having a little stash of Bonnie and Camille fabrics, mostly 'Bliss', and along with buying a few extra bits and pieces from some of their current ranges to round out the colours and designs I have, will hopefully make this a beautiful quilt.

Not a lot of sewing so far.... lots of cutting, a little bit of sewing, and laying out a few blocks ahead.

There are a lot of pieces in this quilt, so I imagine it's going to take a while to make, but I am enjoying the process.

Hope you had a fun FNSI too.  To see what everyone else got up to, pop on over here; thank you to Wendy for hosting another great night.

hello..... and fnwf

Well hello!   It has been awhile.....

First of all, a belated Happy New Year!!  I hope it is a wonderful year for you all.

No sewing news to report here.  The last few months have been a bit of a challenge healthwise; a trip to hospital at the end of August for a simple operation and overnight stay, turned into three weeks in hospital, two fairly major operations, and a completely unexpected cancer diagnosis.  I am now having chemo, 8 sessions down and 8 more to go, and the possibility of radiotherapy after that.

I have really been very lucky with not too many side effects from the chemo, just a lot of fatigue and insomnia. My hair is thinning a little, but I am not losing it completely, and I have not had any nausea which is fantastic.

So, on with the new year.....  I am hoping to do lots of sewing this year (which I say every year, but don't actually do!); I really do want to get some quilts finished this year though, working on some UFOs, and some new quilts too.

And a good place to start is with FNWF this Friday night.  Want to join in too? Head on over to Cheryll's and sign up here.  It's always a fun night, and fun to see what everyone else got up to as well.

Hope to see you there.... and wishing you a year filled with quilty adventures too!

flimsies, minis, and pinnies.....

A little catch up on the latest sewing adventures....

A flimsy completed over the last couple of days - more to come on this one later in the month.....

Minis have been sent and received - thanks once again to amazing Swap Mama Cheryll!

this is the gorgeous mini I received from Sisbabe Stitches, and I love it.  It is very hard to see, but all the seams are sewn over in lovely decorative stitches.  And I love the saying; the first time I read it, I felt like I could relate!

And this is the mini I made and sent.  I won't reveal to who it was sent, as I know they have not been able to check their mail over the last week or two, but hopefully it is there waiting for them when they can.....

Don't these thread colours just look gorgeous together?

And my first project out of my new Gail Pan book, the 'Bloom' pincushion - I love this book, I want to make everything in it!

I did sign up for FNWF with Cheryll last week, with plans to again spend it with Sue, Tracee and Marg, working on our Underground Railroad quilts.  Most annoyingly, a migraine prevailed and I was out of action. So there is some catching up there to do - more on that soon!

another catch up and friday night with friends - june 2014.....

The gifts I worked on over Chookyblue's birthday weekend are now finished and gone to their respective recipients. These were birthday gifts, for friends whose birthdays were in May, and were all meant to be mug rugs, although they may have grown a little too big for that lol -

Firstly, this one for Anette, as for a long time from when I first knew her, she was always working on green hexies -

This one for Donna, who loves Canada and moose (mooses?) -

And finally this one for Marg.  Marg and I, along with Sue and Tracee, are working on the Underground Railroad quilt together, so I chose the 'Basket' block from the book for her

This past Friday was FNWF, and Sue came to my house for some more Underground Railroading.  Tracee had family commitments on the night so couldn't make it, and Marg had SES training, but came later for a cuppa and some dessert.

Sue and I worked on our 'Crossroads' block -

sewing away.....

hmmm, does that look right?......

we've been working hard.....

our finished blocks.....

Sue' blog post is here ...

a cuddle for Ollie.....

I really had a great night, thanks Sue and Marg
