fridays.....

Apart from the obvious reason, Friday is my favourite day of the week. It's the day I go to sit n sew at my LQS, a couple of times a month it's either FNWF or FNSI, and I usually meet up with my sister or a friend
for coffee or lunch.

At sit n sew this week, Gabbie shared her amazing and beautiful quilt she has been working on. I LOVE this, the colours are beautiful - and I have claimed first dibs on it if she ever gives it away!!

This week Gabbie was also working on her small quilt which is in gorgeous colours too.....

I have been working on my pincushion kit which Sue kindly sent me - perfect 'Tania" colours, thanks Sue!

Unfortunately progress is VERY slow going as my hand is still quite painful, but I will get there in the end.....

Hopefully at some point it will look something like this -

Last night of course was FNWF which I spent trimming my hexie blocks so I can start putting them together

...and starting a small secret project involving these,,,,,

~

A little while ago I joined instagram, and while I haven't put much on there, I shared these photos of some things I have loved doing recently -

...a fun visit to Typo after my last oncology visit

I just LOVED this 'fox' calendar so it came home with me - aren't the eyes amazing!  And it goes from Aug 2015, right through to Dec 2016

a fun coffee date with my gorgeous niece...

a freezing, frosty morning spent tucked up in a warm bed with a snuggly puppy and playing on pinterest

... and reading this book which I am really enjoying.

Hope your Friday was fun, and I wish you all a fantastic weekend

friday night with friends ~ may 2014

We had a lovely night last night for FNWF at Marg's house, although being the goose I am, I forgot to take my camera.  Photos however are on Sue's blog here.  Sue had a bit of frustrating night with her sewing, otherwise a good night was had by all.  Sadly Tracee could not sew with us last night, but visited for awhile and kept us fortified with supplies to keep our sewing strength up!

During the week I finished my 'homework' block, Carpenters Wheel ~

and we made the Bears Paw block last night ~

I am really happy with how these colours are working, and apart from the occasional frustration following the instructions in the book, am enjoying making these blocks.

Onto block 6 next, a basket block.....

friday night with friends - april 2014.....

Another lovely, fun night was had here, sewing along with Sue, Tracee and Marg.  We worked again on our Underground Railroad quilt, making block 4, Wagon Wheel.  Happy faces so far!

Tracee had a bit of a stressful night, first running late because of recalcitrant chooks, and then having lots of problems with her block.

For this block, I chose to put it together in a different way than the instructions in the book, and I was so glad I did, my block came together much faster and easier than for the other girls.  As I said in a previous post, the instructions in this book are appalling and we have all struggled to understand them at different times.

In trying to follow the instructions for making this block from the book, confusion reigned once again.....

Poor Tracee had a  lot of problems with hers.  The method in the book for this block is to use interfacing, and when Tracee ironed her wagon wheel, the interfacing shrank and distorted the block.  Some unpicking and resewing was required, but all turned out well in the end.

Our finished blocks -

The evening was finished with a lovely dessert made by Sue, berries in jelly with cream.  Yum!

I made a start on the next block, but it was my turn to be confused..... not much progress was made, so we have homework for next month!  Looking forward to our next get together.....

And thank you to Cheryll for another great night!

let's book it 2014 ~ the underground railroad quilt

A catch up post for some of my recent sewing happenings -

Some time ago, Sue, Tracee, Marg and myself decided to have our own little quilt-along, making the Underground Railroad quilt from this book by Eleanor Burns, and getting together on the first Friday evening of each month for FNWF (hosted by the amazing Cheryll), to make each block.

Our first block - we are working in order through the book - is the Underground Railroad block.  Sue, Tracee and Marg opted to go with the green/brown/cream colours used in the book, but I decided on red/cream/blue for my colours, although having now seen their green/brown/cream results I am feeling a bit torn!.
This is the result of our first night's sewing ~

We were very industrious ~ look at these ladies hard at work!

We do find this book quite hard to follow, the instructions are not well written.  I think Marg's face in the picture above says 'what the hell does that mean'!!

I must admit I am not happy with my block, and am also not convinced I am happy with these colours.  Sue and I got together last Thursday night and made our second block and I tried some different colours - dark blue/mustard/taupe - which I think I prefer.  One of them will have to be remade, I'm not sure yet which....

As we are doing this quilt-along from a book, I am joining in this month with  Vroomans Quilts for 'Let's Book It 2014'.

We had originally decided to do just one block a month, but, with 15 blocks to make, have decided we will probably make two blocks a month going forward.

Now, I just need to make a final decision about my colours, before we go on to the next block .....

fnwf.....

Hello!  I hope a lovely evening was enjoyed by all, both FNWFers and non-FNWFers!

I worked on a mini quilt I am making for our lovely friend Jenny in NZ, to send to her for Christmas.

Unfortunately, I am internet-less at home at the moment, so am writing from my computer at work, and hopefully I will be able to upload some photos later in the week.

Until then, have a lovely week all.....

friday night with friends 04/10/13.....

Well, I'm a goose.....

We had a lovely Friday Night with Friends get together. Sue and I went to Marg's gorgeous home, but I forgot to take my camera.....

I worked on the hand quilting of my Halloween project which I am making for a friend in New Zealand, Sue played with her hexies (I think she was just having lots of fun, having finally finished the HUGE quilt repair job she has been doing for an acquaintance which has taken a very, very long time), and Marg worked on her lovely Christmas stitchery project.

It was a lovely evening, and some photos can be found on Sue's blog, here.....

I hope the other participants in FNWF had a lovely night, and everyone else had a great Friday night too.
